Yorkies
Yorkies have a spirited and sparkling character. Yorkies are also known as Yorkshire Terriers and have been considered as one of the best pet dogs to have around the house. They are a small breed of dogs blessed with long hair. A typical Yorkshire Terrier has a small head that is rather flat on the top. It has medium sized eyes that are usually dark in color. The ears are small and v-shaped and are held erect. This breed of terrier has a well proportioned body with a short back and a level topline. Its body hair is moderately long and straight with the hair on parts of the head slightly longer. The hair on the top of its head is usually tied into a bow so as not to interfere with the dog’s line of sight. Its overall appearance makes it into a cute and cuddly dog that any pet owner would easily love. Yorkshire Terriers are of the brave and highly energetic type. Their small size does not seem to bother them. They are not easily intimidated by larger dogs and intruders, making them a fine watchdog as well as a loving pet. They can be suspicious of strangers and would not hesitate to bark and go into aggressive mode when someone invades their territory.

Although there are several varying accounts as to their origins, it is widely believed that they were a cross from various breeds of the early terrier breeds then prevalent in the English countryside. Their predominant ancestor has been the Clydesdale Terrier which came from as far away as Scotland, brought into Yorkshire by Scotsmen drawn into the area looking for work at the coal mines, textile mills and factories. The early Yorkies were bred primarily for catching rats and for hunting small game and to penetrate animal burrows. Along the way, they were cross bred with other terrier breeds and finally developed into the present day Yorkshire Terriers that a lot of people have grown to love. This adorable breed has slowly become popular as a house pet that it has been included in the top 20 of the most popular breeds in the US.
