French Bulldogs
French Bulldogs make wonderful house pets. French Bulldogs are a sturdy breed known for their large erect and rounded bat ears. They have flat powerful muzzles and cute little snub noses. Their heads are not as massive as the English Bulldogs which make them well balanced. They usually have short and easy to care for coats that would need little grooming and a soft and fairly loose skin that makes them a pleasant pet to hold and lay with. Overall, Frenchies are of a very playful and affectionate breed of dogs. They have a comical personality and love to clown around. They are a very friendly and easygoing breed that can easily get along even with strangers and even with other animals. Most Frenchies also do not like to bark and it is common for an owner not to hear them bark often. This trait makes them very poor watchdogs although they can be protective of their own territory. But if you are looking for a great companion to have around the house, then the French Bulldog is the pet for you. They may sometimes look menacing, but they are really dogs with soft hearts. They price human companionship more than other dog breeds.
The history of French Bulldogs dates back to the mid 1800’s. Although their exact origins cannot be determined, it has been the opinion of many that they were brought to France by traveling Normandy lace workers from England who have brought with them smaller breeds of bulldogs. Slowly, their popularity began to reach even the households of the well to do classes which made them a fashionable pet to have. Not long afterwards, they became the favorite pets of the artistic sets across Europe. The French Bulldogs even caused an uproar in England when they were first brought there for an exhibition. The “French Bulldog” name branded on this new breed caused quite a stir since the bulldog was originally an English breed and considered as a traditional symbol of English culture. But after the commotion died down, the French Bulldogs were eventually accepted as a new breed of dog alongside other well known breeds. Their current position among other dog breed would not be possible were it not for the influence of some dedicated American breeders and fanciers. It was the Americans who organized the very first French Bulldog Club in the world. And because of that and many other developments along the way, the Frenchies became an international breed that has gained fanciers from many nations.
